We like to cook salmon from costco, and unfortunately, this isn't big enough to accomodate the salmon. A few tilapia can fit on it though. It's fun to use, and has a nice wood board to set the skillet on. We got the black enamel, and it is maybe a little harder to clean since it shows up anything that was left on it. It seemed like it was just seasoned iron, but it is enameled cast iron. All in all, it's nice, just wish it could fit bigger fish.

I got the black large pan and it seems very well made and works well in the oven. It’s a bit too shallow for use as a casserole dish, but provides very nice presentation of baked fish or a shrimp dish, etc. The wooden service platter I am not too thrilled about: it does not look anything like the platter shown in the selling page photos where it appears to be of one piece of wood. Instead, it is made of irregularly long pieces of 2.5 inch wide bamboo-like wood, with very uneven grain patterns and color. To me it is not very attractive, and who knows how long it will stay in one piece (definitely don’t wash it in the dishwasher). I am a veteran woodworker myself, so maybe I am more sensitive to this kind of stuff than others – I noticed that a previous reviewer gave it 5 stars and included photos of the platter on its own, and it looks just as bad as mine but he/she makes no mention of this. Curiously, the seller has no photo of just the tray…

It's a really nice, enameled cast iron skillet. I've used it twice now and it's been perfect each time. The wooden serving platter is nice as well but it's a little hard to get the skillet on the platter. I love the disk though and both times I've used it people have commented on how beautiful it is. Skillet cleans up nicely. Would recommend.

I really love this fish cast iron plate with the ceramic coat. Its perfect size with the wooden serving board. Its definitely heavy duty considering its cast iron. The wooden tray is all very solid and durable. Unfortunately I want to give this 5 stars but mine came damaged due to very poor packaging. There were no padding or bumpers to prevent the dish from sliding around in the box which made the dish ceramic coating chip at each end of the dish.

This cast iron skillet arrived in a very nice presentation box and is very well made – what you would expect of cast iron. Keep in mind that it is not very large, so cooking anything for more than 2 people will be a challenge. While there is a lip around the skillet, it is not very high, making it ideal for veggies – think the skillets usually used for fajitas. The wooden serving tray is a nice touch and has 2 channels that line up with the bottom of the skillet for a snug fit, solving the problem of how to move the skilled from cooktop/over to table. While relatively small, would have preferred the company branding to be on the bottom of each piece. Makes a great gift and I would definitely recommend.

This is a very nice pan that I can use for such a variety of foods. I have not been as impressed with the heat dispersion as I was hoping to be but the area that does heat up evenly does retain the heat well. The cutting board is a very nice addition to complete the set. They are both easy to care for and clean.

This fish shaped iron cast skillet is really heavy duty and high quality. I had never heard of the Lava brand of cookware before but it seems to be of great quality. This particular skillet does not have very high sides so it would be great for cooking meat dishes such as fajitas with sliced bell peppers. Due to the short sides it will somewhat limit what you can cook in it obviously but I think many kinds of meat would cook great. I really like the versatility of iron cast cookware since it can be used on the stove top, in the oven or even over an open flame. This skillet has a unique feel to it which is smoother than a normal iron cast skillet. Food cooked using iron cast cookware has such a great flavor to it. There are raised feet on the bottom of the skillet that fit perfectly into the included bamboo wooden service platter that not only works as a hot plate but can also be used as a cutting board. I have not yet had the opportunity to cook anything in this awesome skillet yet but will sometime soon. I highly recommend others to try the Lava brand of cookware for it's high quality.

I really love this skillet and serving tray set!We entertain a lot at our cabin, so I'm always looking to add unique serving trays and service ware to our collection - this is a perfect addition to our lake cabin - a place where we all do a lot of fishing.The wood tray itself is very well made. There are no rough edges and the finish is very nice. The skillet and the top of the wood tray each have the word "LAVA" embossed on them. I'm not usually a fan of things that show obvious branding, as I think it takes away from the overall aesthetics of an item, but at least this is just one word and is fairly small.The cast iron skillet fits perfectly on the tray. You can use these two pieces together, or separate them so you have a skillet and a tray - each for some different kind of food. Just know if you use the wood tray separately, there are cutouts in the tray where the cast iron skillet fits. You could use the bottom of the wood tray instead - which is flat - but there are part numbers embossed into this area (see my photo). I'm going to sand this text out smooth, so I can use this side. ;-)The size of this skillet and tray is very nice and will work well for our needs.The item description states "Dishwasher safe", but I don't recommend washing in the dishwasher. It's best to handwash cast iron and the wood tray.This set is packaged in a nice gift box, and would make an excellent gift.I'm really happy with this set, and I know it will get a lot of use at our cabin. I highly recommend it!
